Kari-gurashi no Arrietti is a fairly standard action platform game developed by Taito. The story loosely follows the book and movie in that Arrietty must go through many trials before she can be a full fledged Borrower. This includes finding everyday items like sugar and herbs as well as battling (or escaping from) spiders, cats and, in one intense encounter, a bunch of stomping feet in a hallway!
The
game takes place in several locations in and around the house, including
the garden, inside the walls and in the basement. The windowsill stage
on the second floor is particularly difficult!
Just kidding, this is of course fake like usual. I had a lot of fun making the tile-based graphics for the screenshots! The background graphics were not tile based however, and would never have flown back in the 80s when cartridge space was so tight.
